  4.     The Detroit Pistons may have won the N.B.A. championship last
  5. week, thanks to their Motor City moxie, but they couldn't have done
  6. it without a contribution from South Korea. How's that? Despite
  7. the all-American Spalding name on N.B.A. basketballs, they are made
  8. in South Korea. In fact, many products with red-white-and-blue
  9. names are manufactured abroad, including Rawlings baseballs (made
  10. in Haiti), Bell telephones (Singapore and Taiwan) and the Pontiac
  11. LeMans (South Korea).

  13.     Now a Maryland-based group called the Made in the USA
  14. Foundation plans to compile a list of popular products and their
  15. place of manufacture for a forthcoming book titled Made in the USA:
  16. A Catalog of the Best American Products. Joel Joseph, the group's
  17. founder, plans to contrast such U.S.-made goods as Levi's and
  18. Macintosh computers with ringers that include Perry Ellis "America
  19. Series" shirts (made in Mauritius) and Rockport shoes (Portugal and
  20. Taiwan). Joseph is lobbying for legislation that would require
  21. advertisers to disclose where their products are manufactured.
